Comparing to any other country, United States is the place where online wagering prevails, despite the restrictions besieged upon it. Recently, the Isle of Man, a British crown dependency in the Irish Sea has removed a four-year-old veto that prohibited Internet casinos accepting bets from United States residents. Though this revision of policy is affecting a limited number of Internet casinos, it induces a real upheaval in the fierce battle emerging between the United States and many other countries over Internet gambling.
American prosecutors proclaim that federal laws prohibit online gambling trying to thwart its increasing popularity by resorting to threats which impose legal actions against American companies that maintain businesses with overseas Internet casinos whose operations are outside the scope of their jurisdiction.
The recent decision by the Isle of Man is a crucial one as a past experience has shown. Such casinos were already launched back in 2001 seeking to rivet blue-chip gambling operations by displaying rigorous regulations. This, however, was not a long living success as most of the businesses flourishing at the beginning dilapidated shortly after, either migrating or shutting down their Internet operations all together. Many more countries license and regulate online gambling businesses and though regulations widely differ they all have one thing in common – the desire to attract more Internet casinos.
