Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was harshly accused by some Democrats who claimed he overestimated the gambling revenues, once believed to reach the $1.3 billion. Democrats appeared to be somewhat unsure whether putting so much at stake onto the fickle gambling field was a smart move to make. As most of the money was earmarked for transportation projects, the rolling dice are bound to jeopardize the future transportation enterprises, they've said.
The deal presupposed the tribes to slice out of their new financial income an annual transfer based on the number of slot machine infused into their casinos and sign a contract for a $1-billion for state transportation projects.
The Finance Department analysts have shown that the tribe's gambling expansion occurs more slowly than was predicted which will result in the mismatch of estimated profits. The state stands to receive only $16.3 million from slot machines this year and $34.3 million next year. Schwarzenegger was once again blamed for having a latent motive to intentionally overstate the amount of expected revenues.
