Bodog.net will be hosting a celebrity “thank you to the troops” charity event for the 110,000 men and women of the U.S. military currently in Hawaii awaiting for or returning from deployment in the Middle East.
The two-day charity event, entitled “Bodog Salutes Our Troops: A Tribute to American Heroes,” is being held to thank the men and women of the United States Military Services and benefiting the military charity Fisher House Foundation. "Bodog Salutes Our Troops" will feature a prize-filled poker tournament and a comedy show and concert held at the world famous Waikiki Shell with celebrity and military attendance at both events.
"Fisher House Foundation is delighted to be working with Bodog on this event to salute the troops,” said James Weiskopf, Vice President of Fisher House Foundation. “It's a wonderful way to combine fun and entertainment while giving a little something back. So many families will benefit and that's what our Foundation is all about."
The "Bodog Salutes the Troops" charity event will be headlined by musical sensation Snoop Dogg. Since his 1992 debut, rapper Snoop Dogg has been an icon of American popular culture.
Snoop Dogg debuted as a rapper on Dr. Dre's seminal 1992 album The Chronic. His first solo effort, Doggystyle, sold more than 800,000 copies in its first five weeks and 5 million overall.
Other celebrities on hand at “Bodog Salutes Our Troops: A Tribute to American Heroes" include American Pie sweetheart actress Shannon Elizabeth; SNL funnyman Colin Quinn; the Original Latin King of Comedy Paul Rodriguez and MTV star Carson Daly.
"Gambling911.com is proud to be one of the media outlets invited to cover this important event," commented Thomas Jensen, Marketing Director and Media Coordinator for Gambling911.com. "Based on our assessment of this year's World Series of Poker, it is clear that the marriage between celebrities and gambling will be one that lasts well into the future."
For Gambling911.com's founder, Christopher Costigan, having his online media company a part of this event has deeper meaning. Costigan is a direct descendant of legendary showman and composer George M. Cohan, who was among the first to wow U.S. troops and boost morale with his patriotic masterpieces, "Over There," "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "It's a Grand 'Ol Flag." Cohan's inspiring song "Over There" was being played or sung by every flag-waving American soldier at the time and also by the soldiers of the Allied armies.
"I am very proud to have Bodog.com represented on Gambling911.com and to see this fine company carry on the tradition of entertaining troops my family started many decades ago to honor this great nation of ours and its countless heroes," Costigan said.
This event also marks a milestone for online gambling, a multi-billion dollar industry. For the first time ever, the Pentagon has signed a morale building deal with an international gaming company.
“Bodog Salutes our Troops is an opportunity to give something back to the men and women who have risked their lives in the interest of protecting our freedom,” said Calvin Ayre, Bodog founder and CEO. “Giving these troops a little entertainment and leisure time is the least we can do for their sacrifices, and we are thrilled to be involved with Fisher House Foundation, a charity that truly supports troops in their time of need.”
