It was reported that gross gambling income on the Coast increased by $7.6 million during the month of March, while casinos along the Mississippi River demonstrated the opposite trend. Even though it seems that revenues dipped for river casinos, there are other sources, including a study conducted by Loren Scott, an LSU Economist, demonstrating that riverboat casinos, such as those belonging to the Shreveport/Bossier company, continually increased their income.
Interestingly, most people who come to gamble in Shreveport/Bossier come from outside of Louisiana, especially from Texas. This contrasts with a study, performed in 1998, demonstrating that the in-state visitors comprised the majority of Shreveport/Bossier gamblers. Statewide, river casinos collected $142.4 million compared to $117.4 million on the Coast.
