The Illinois Gaming Board and Gov. Rod Blagojevich have not had a good start as they had a series of run-ins on the matter of casino gambling. The board’s new chairman, Aaroin Jaffe a little more than a week on the post said that he sensed there is a mismatch in the interests that needs to be urgently addressed. The board has autonomous responsibilities, but it is dominated by the governor’s Revenue Department that controls the budget and hiring.
Last year, the Revenue Department waged war with the board to obtain the confidential information on gambling submitted by casinos to the board. The board staff refused to divulge the information arguing that it has never been disclosed before. The debate was severed once the Illionois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan’s office determined to give away the information.
