Ohio gamblers are unfortunate, as it seems that legislators and game manufacturers are in certain discrepancy regarding the application of the gambling rules. Video machines that offer cash payoffs based on luck, rather than skill, are illegal in Ohio. On the other hand, games that require skill are legal. It is not a secrete that taking upon gambling on the luck based games in Ohio these days is equivalent to stealing an electronic gadget from a store, where every corner features cameras taking snapshots.
However, a new breed of games is emerging, which has not been properly labeled as yet. These games are catered by bars and truck stops that remunerate gamblers on the spot for their successful trials. In search for a new definition for these casino derivative games meshing skill and chance, the lawmakers are ducking over their rule books.
Meanwhile, Maple Heights police swooped onto the Lee Road adult arcade, impounding 27 video gambling machines and about $20,000. The investigation revealed that businesses took advantage of the ambivalence loophole surrounding this matter and therefore allowed themselves to operate under the premise that these games are “skill-based” ones. The police argued that the amount of skill required in these games is negligible and quite frequently the payouts are random, which ultimately makes these gambling machines illegal.
